Training in IWRM

A two day training on IWRM cum National Seminar on "Adaptation in climate change and river conservation for better livelihood and effective irrigation system in Tinau River"was organized from 21st – 23rd  July, 2011 in Rupendehi district of Nepal. GWP Nepal/JVS and Nepal Engineers' Association, Lumbini Regional Centre, Butwal jointly organized the programs. Mr. Som Nath Poudel, Vice-Chairperson; Mr. Surya Nath Upadhyay, Secretary General and Dr. Vijaya Shrestha, Executive Member of GWP Nepal/JVS actively participated the program.

This workshop which wasinaugurated by the then Defense Minister, Bishnu Poudel, elected from that area wasparticipated by wide range of stakeholders. Eleven research papers were presented by the researchers and stakeholders in the seminar. Tinau is one of the rivers in the western part of Nepal which is in dilapidated condition.

Sand and gravels are extracted haphazardly from the river. Its banks are being encroached by landless people. This training workshop was expected to raise the awareness on IWRM methodologies. The focus of the seminar was on the conservation and management of Tinau River.
