Workshop on "Developing a Strategy to Promote Integrity and Accountability in Nepal's Water Sector"

On May 17, 2010, a workshop on public information/consultation on "Developing a Strategy to Promote Integrity and Accountability in Nepal's Water Sector" was organized in Kathmandu by GWP Nepal/JVS in collaboration with Water Integrity Network (WIN), Berlin of Transparency International. The workshop was organized in the context of WIN exploratory mission to Nepal led by Dr. Donal O'Leary, member of WIN-International Steering Committee. The specific objectives of the workshop were to:

  • Introduce WIN and its activities,
  • Explore the need and relevance of WIN in the context of water resource development in Nepal more particularly to make a study on transparency integrity and           accountability in the water sector of Nepal,
  • Identify the modalities for oversight and management of WIN study, and
  • Identify the major areas of water sector where WIN study should focus, as well as the principal integrity areas. The workshop was attended by 42stakeholders coming from civil society, government, donors, private sector and the public sector in Nepal. 

 

Workshop on "Nepal Water Integrity Network Study"

GWP Nepal/JVS jointly with Water Integrity Network (WIN), Berlin organized a workshop on "Nepal Water Integrity Network Study" on 30th November 2010 in Kathmandu. Mr. Per Ljung, an International Consultant presented a report on "Scoping Report on the Nepal Water Integrity Study".

Dr. Donal O'Leary, representative of Transparency International gave a brief introduction of Water Integrity Network (WIN) in the workshop. More than seventy-five Government, Non Government Organization, Donors, Media and professionals participated in the workshop.

A draft scoping study of water integrity situation in Nepal and the possible steps towards establishing transparency, accountabilityand integrity in the water resource sector of the development was prepared. The study report was discussed among the stakeholders.
