Fifth International Seminar on FMIS

GWP Nepal/JVS, one of the partner organizations of the Fifth International Seminar on Farmer Managed Irrigation Systems with a theme "Dynamics of Farmer Managed Irrigation Systems: Socio-institutional, Economic and Technical Context" organized an International Seminar from 25th – 26th March, 2010 in Kathmandu. Around 125 participants from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Japan, The Netherlands, China and Pakistan participated in the seminar. Three papers were presented on behalf of Nepal Water Partnership/JVS. Mr. Surya N. Upadhyay, presented a paper on "Water Resource Association and the Legal Regime - The Challenges" whereas Dr. Vijaya Shrestha, on "Enabling Enactments and Eroding Social Capital of FMIS" and Mr. Som Nath Poudel/Dr. Upendra Gautam, on "FMIS in Twenty first Century: Coping with the Climate Change". The seminar aimed to understand the multi-dimensional contributions of Farmer Managed Irrigation Systems (FMIS) at the community level and the national level.
